Spine & Sports Concussion Center
Drs. Jack Knightly and Joseph Rempson are the co directors of the Spine and Sports Concussion Center which specializes in sports-related and other mild traumatic brain injuries. Our services include detailed screening and assessment of concussions, including computerized neuropsychological testing and the treatment, evaluation and follow-up these disorders while incorporating additional computerized neuropsychological testing as needed; referrals may be made for more extensive neuropsychological testing or neuroradiologic studies .Preseason testing for athletes utilizing computerized neuropsychological testing to provide an individual baseline measurement for use in determining treatment progress if the athlete is subsequently injured later in the season are also available.
An estimated ten percent of all athletes participating in contact sports suffer a concussion each season. Concussions occur when a blow to the head or neck interrupts brain function. The effects of these concussions vary between individuals, and many mild concussions are undiagnosed and unreported. Most athletes recover from concussions completely and can return to play following an appropriate period of recovery. However, knowing when it is safe to return to the game is crucial in order to avoid serious brain injury.
The Spine and Sports Concussion Center at ANS was designed to address the comprehensive needs of the athlete who has sustained a concussion or other sports related neurological injury in order to facilitate his or her recovery and safe, confident return to play. The highly experienced and skilled medical and professional staff here at ANS will provide and excellence in concussion management as well as other related disorders providing high level services in the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and overall care of the athlete.
